The Gentle Orbit is my second novel, following my debut Hannah. It is the most personal thing I have written, and draws on memories and experiences from my own life.

It begins with Michael and Anna meeting on a beach in Ibiza. A quiet, immediate connection. An afternoon that feels as though it was always meant to happen.

 

Then life intervenes.

 

Anna drifts into someone else's orbit before anything can fully form, and much of the book lives in that space between almost and everything.

They marry other people. They build lives, lose people, make choices they cannot undo. Sometimes they are close.

 

Sometimes years pass. But neither ever quite disappears from the other's life.

 

And when Anna's world begins to narrow around her, Michael cannot make her choices for her. He can only remain.

 

Sometimes that is everything.
